“PM praises minister at center of Baha Mar controversy” – The Tribune

Excerpt from this article; “As he continued his silence on the controversy involving several members of his administration, Prime Minister Perry Christie singled out Education Minister Jerome Fitzgerald for praise last night, commending him for his performance this term.

Speaking at a Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) rally on Central Andros last night, Mr. Christie referenced certain party members, including Mr. Fitzgerald, as being a part of the Sir. Lynden Pindling dream.

And in what seemed like the closest he came to referencing the controversies surrounding his government, Mr. Christie also railed against ‘lies’ and ‘fake news’, though he never specified what  he was referring to.

‘The FNM will say all sorts of bad things about us’, he said.  ‘They will tell fake news about us, but we are protected by the shield of faith against the lies, against the fake news.  We will be strong.”

At this point in time can Prime Minister Perry Christie honestly believe that Sir. Lynden would be proud of this Progressive Liberal Party? And exactly what is the ‘fake news’ and lies being told by others about the PLP?

I expressed the opinion two days ago that since these latest instances of controversies have surfaced regarding the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) member of parliament for Marathon, Jerome Fitzgerald, he would probably be promoted within the ranks of the PLP party and today we have the leader of the governing Progressive Liberal Party attempting to present him [Minister Fitzgerald] to the country like ‘Simba’ from the movie ‘The Lion King’ – The Favorite Son, if I were the candidate for Central Andros for the PLP, I just may feel slighted about this all.

This praise would have amazed me if I did not know the nature of the Progressive Liberal Party but it has always seemed that the ‘dirtier’ you are the more worthy of praise you are in this political organization.

Minister Fitzgerald was one of the first ministers out of the gates, after the May 7th 2012 general election win with questionable dealings and controversy; with the ‘gift’ of a nolle prosequi by the acting Attorney General of a client represented by the law firm of Allyson Maynard-Gibson, these clients being ‘suspected’ of smuggling guns into the country.  Mr. Fitzgerald and the attorney general’s office have yet to give a plausible explanation as to why this nolle prosequi was granted but it seems as if minister Fitzgerald took this as a ‘green light’ to do whatever pleased him as a elected government official, seeing that there were really no consequences for these questionable actions as he hid behind the Attorney General – Favorite Son.

Since then, Minister Fitzgerald as openly admitted to concealing a report about the toxic levels of gasoline in the water of the persons of his constituency over fears of losing his job and his actions have gone unpunished the Prime Minister Perry Christie – Favorite Son.

Recently; it has been revealed that Minister Fitzgerald has broken Parliamentary Procedure (Code of Ethics), by soliciting three contracts from former Baha Mar developer, Sarkis Izmirlian.  The Prime Minister has not addressed these current allegations directly; with Bradley Roberts, Chairman of the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) stating in a press release that the matter is a non-issue due to the fact that Mr. Fitzgerald was never able to secure these contrasts n behalf of his family’s business; so even Bradley Roberts knows that Jerome is Perry’s favorite son, I wonder how many others within the party are aware of this, we don’t want anyone catching feelings and the like.

As Minister Fitzgerald is being caught up in a new round of alleged wrong-doing concerning his mother and the National Insurance Board, I ask myself just when will the ‘good’ minister realize that enough is enough but then maybe you are allowed to do as you please without fear of consequence as a Favorite Son.

The Progressive Liberal Party fails for one reason, it is their nature.
