“DAVIS:  ORDER WAS DONE IN A RUSH” – The Tribune

Excerpt from this article; “PLP LEADER Philip ‘Brave, Davis criticized an emergency order issued by Prime Minister Hubert Minnis yesterday, saying the provisions appeared to be rushed.

He said the prohibitions outlined in the order – including a national curfew and the suspension of business operations with few exceptions – may adversely impact the public.

‘Yesterday our party urged the government to proceed with caution in the exercise of the powers under the state of emergency,’ Mr. Davis said at PLP Headquarters.  ‘It is our view that these measures must be for the benefit of Bahamian people.  We are concerned that this was done in a heated rush and may have unintended consequences adverse to the public.”

‘I also pointed out (Wednesday) that there was no evidence people needed to be coerced into following directives and protocol promulgated by the government.”

Brave

As the leader of the opposition speaks to the suspension of business operations adversely impacting the public he seems to be missing the bigger picture, which would be the attempt to safeguard the public from the spread and contraction of the COVID-19 virus and to not have it reach the levels of infection that are being seen in Italy and New York City.

Surely, the well-being of the public at large out weights the inconvenience of what he suggests may be lost due to the suspension of business operations, right?

Many have began to complain about a curfew and the leader of the opposition seems to suggestion that such a measure is not necessary. Many question why between 9pm to 5am; some even asking if this is the only time that you can catch this disease.  While this question may be asked in jest by some, some have taken it seriously as they go on to criticize the government on this matter but if one were to apply logic to the situation then it should makes sense.

Most people socialize after work and one of ways in curtailing the spread of the disease would be to limit the amount of time that people “hang out”.  It would be during these interactions when this disease can be transmitted and spread to large amounts of people and much more quickly and easily.  Mr. Davis suggests “..that there is no evidence that people needed to be coerced into following directives and protocols promulgated by the government”, and to this I suggest that he rides around this island at about 10pm tonight to see just how many people adhere to the directive which is in their best interest.

This drastic measure was put in place for one reason – to protect the Bahamian people, so when Mr. Davis talks about the possible negative impact it is clear that he does not seem to have the best interest of the country and people at heart, as he only seems to push forward with his political agenda.

It is also  clear that Mr. Philip ‘Brave’ Davis is pandering to his audience, this is to be expected of any politician.  What is sad is the fact that it would appear that he does not hold the intelligence of these people in high regard, as he attempts to push such stupidity down their throats but there is another possibility – which is he actually believes what he is saying.

The PLP fails for one reason, it is their nature.

  1. He can’t understand because he’s not a doctor and on the same note Alfred Sears said we needed to safeguard the Bahamaian people…
