“PM: FNM an incredibly unreliable choice” – The Nassau Guardian

Excerpt from this article; “At his first political meeting since his offensive finger gesture landed him in hot water, Prime Minister Perry Christie got back on his campaign message last night turning his guns at the Free National Movement (FNM) over the current division in the party, calling it ‘incredibly unreliable’ as a choice for government..

‘We are not like those others.’ Said Christie while speaking to supporters at a branch meeting for the Carmichael, Southern Shores and Golden Isles constituencies at Gavin Tynes Primary School.

One night [they are] dancing together, the next night they [are] calling one or the other corrupt or saying that they could never in their lifetime work with them together.

The point is, you have all the evidence you need to know that they are incredibly unreliable, and you cannot make the mistake of relying on them to be able to  form a government.’

Christie added, ‘If they was the government of The Bahamas today, who would have been running the country? Which one?”

Well Prime Minister Christie; many wonder as to who is running the country today with such a ‘cohesive group’?

As a ‘cohesive group’, the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) government has proven to be just as unreliable and unstable, or even more so, than they would like to make the public believe that the Free National Movement (FNM) party is.  It is fact that since it last national convention the FNM party has indeed been coming together despite the noise being made by the infamous ‘Rebel Seven”, who now wanders the political wilderness.

The Prime Minister and his Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) organization has now attempted to create a tentative link between the resignation of Branville McCartney, Leader of the Democratic National Alliance (DNA), as leader of opposition business in the Senate to the Opposition, saying this shows divided opposition which is still embroiled with infighting; this connection cannot be made, in the real world as it makes no sense and can only be made in the mind of the Prime Minister; probably coming from the very same ‘voice’ that prompted him to ‘flip the bird’ at his criticizers the other night.  I guess he still has to make an argument for the statement of a vote for the Free National Movement is a vote to move the country backward and the question is; are we not already in rapid decline and free fall? This makes one wonder exactly just how [has] the Progressive Liberal Party advanced the country over the last four and a half?

It is the present Progressive Liberal Party government that has proven itself, time and time again in the past four and half plus years to be “incredibly unreliable”, as they have failed the people of the Bahamas at each and even initiative that that have tried to implement; one can only sit in amazement that a government that is so inept, incompetent and lazy would then beg for another five years to continue the downfall that they now have the Commonwealth of The Bahamas in; dust of their ‘golden nuggets’ and claim to be the better choice, when the past four and half plus years has proven that they are just not, because as of to date they have yet to show one ONE way in which they have empowered the people of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas or even marginally made their lives any better.

 “PM flips the bird” – The Nassau Guardian (February 28 2017)

Excerpt from this article; “Hundreds of Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) supporters; including children and senior citizens gasped in amazement last night as Prime Minister Perry Christie flipped the bird while explaining his response to what he called a ‘distorted’ claim.

Through he gave few details on exactly what he was referring to, a seemingly upset Christie showed the energetic crowd a quick flash of his middle finger as he explained his response to an allegation he had heard early yesterday.

‘We are now entering the period in our national life when all sorts of things will be said’, said Christie while speaking at a branch meeting for the Marathon, Fox Hill and St. Anne’s constituencies in Fox Hill.

‘When I was getting up this morning, they showed me an account of a lunatic who was saying I should deny I own this condominium.

‘This is what I [told] him…..’

Christie then lifted his middle finger.”

At what I see as a critical time in the campaign season for the Progressive Liberal Party, as the party begins to show some of its weaknesses which everyone knew existed; with the government losing traction and the support of the electorate that brought them to victory in 2012, with the present battle over the Free Town constituency , the dismal performance  of the economy under this administration being brought to light , the failings of the Ministry of National Security to date and the ill-advised introduction of the controversial ‘Spy Bill” and a myriad f other failures that the Prime Minister and his government have been rightfully criticized for; the Prime Minister all of a sudden loses his ‘cool’ over a matter of little or no consequence, this makes no sense but then we are discussing the Progressive Liberal Party, so yes there is that. But now there is the cry from his supporters of ‘tell dem bout dey sef’ – in what has been described by agriculture minister, V Alfred Grey as a ‘strong’ move.

A ‘strong’ move; right in the nick of time to suggest to the persons that had began to see through the façade and take note of the numerous faults of this Prime Minister and his government, causing them to began to lose faith; ‘I have had enough and it is time for me to take of the gloves and fight back’, a decisive move by my observation.

It is odd that “Cool PC” would lose his cool and stoop to this level over what some ‘lunatic’ has said about him shortly after he had threatened to tell the world what he was told about Dr. Hubert Minnis; it is curious and laughable.

Indeed, the situation seems to coincidental to be a coincidence, in my opinion and it is indeed sad that the leader of the Progressive Liberal Party would seemingly find it fitting to make such an obscene gesture in the public’s eye, to rally his troops and shift the momentum in his favor.

“PM: We’re cutting Minnis some slack before election – The Tribune

Except from this article; “Prime Minister Perry Christie warned Free National Movement Leader Dr. Hubert Minnis on Friday night that the PLP is cutting him some ‘slack’ before waging a campaign that highlights the terrible things this party members have said about him.

‘The people who are against him are at the people who was in his party,’ Christie said.  They’re the people who said never, never, never.  They’re the people who define him.  And we are going to give him all the slack he needs right now because in his own record, what every one of them said about him, and they really ought to know him better than us and he might as well know we are going to publish what they said about him.  So start working my brother and try to find the explanations for why they said so many things about you and no matter how much the newspapers try to shine you up and brush you off, they said some things about you too.”

So it seems that the Prime Minister and the Progressive Liberal Party have issued a warning to Dr. Hubert Minnis that they plan to publish and make public hearsay and rumor to further their political agenda and further deflect from their failings as a government because as the Prime Minister says; “…we are going to publish what they said about him”; and I say even if what is said is true it is tantamount to hearsay and rumor and suspect to suspicion.

I just would like to drop a few excerpts here before I proceed;

Excerpt from this article; “Former Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) MP Philip Galanis said yesterday that Prime Minister Perry Christie is ‘delusional to believe that he is really the glue that us keeping the party together.”

With the country being reminded of these things and them not being hearsay but rather documented facts, I will now turn my attention to the Prime Minister in his capacity as Minister of Finance and address a few pressing issues that the country is currently facing. 

“Decisive measures’ call as deficit soars to $314m” – The Tribune

Excerpt from this article; “A key Minister of Finance adviser last night warned that the 112 percent increase in the half-year fiscal deficit to $314.2 million was an ‘early warning signal’ that the Government must take ‘very decisive’ measures to stabilize the national finances”; I really thought that at one point, largely due to the government’s tax reform measures [Value Added-Tax] that the deficit was in the decline but it seems to have gotten loose and raging upward at an alarming rate and the Minister of Finance , along with his office seem very inept at getting it under control; “112 percent increase within the half year”, so the question to the Minister of Finance/ Mr. Prime Minister ,as he threatens to ‘pull someone else’s file” is how can you bring about tax reform, collect over a BILLION dollars in taxes and still have the national debt out of control, the deficit running wild and the nations credit rating downgraded four times in four years, now standing at junk status but speak about what you will talk about what someone else said about someone?  Do you even realize just how ridiculous that even sounds?

In my opinion, Mr. Galanis and Mr. Roker are both correct in their assessment of you as there are others close to you willing to speak to your gross ineptitude and incompetence as the Minister of Finance.

Do you really believe that you are in any position to speak to anyone else’s performance, especially based on hearsay?

“PM: Unemployment breeding crime” – The Nassau Guardian

Excerpt from this article; “A month after declaring that his government created 32,000 jobs over his term, Prime Minister Perry Christie suggested unemployment has bred the criminality the country now faces.

‘We must recognize that there is a great danger in our country of young men in particular, who are evolving in a way where they are faced with levels of desperation arising out of unemployment,’ Christie said at the opening of the Bahamas Union of Teachers’ first Educational Conference at British Colonial Hotel.’

‘Unemployment is serving as an incubator for criminality.’

‘And we had better bring focus as a country, as a region, on the troubled and potential trouble that exists in our backyards.’

Christie did not elaborate on how his administration plans to remedy this.

However, unemployment remains in double digits.”

First, allow me to quote the solution as proposed in the Progressive Liberal Party’s, “A Charter For Governance”, as it pertains to job creation.

“The PLP job creation plan will be proactive and will be anchored in four [4] pillars:

1. Effective promotion of The Bahamas at home and abroad. Foreign direct investment is important for The Bahamas and so is increasing local entrepreneurship;
2. The removal of impediments to business so hat Government facilitates the growth of business;
3. Increasing opportunities to dramatically expand the role of Bahamians as employers through initiatives like the national initiative in resort development, which is part of our Tourism Plan;
4. The government as a direct investor in carefully defined circumstances.”

The truth of the matter is that no matter how well a country is doing and how high the country’s employment rate is, there will always be instances of criminality and it is good that the Prime Minister has finally come to realize this but while it seems that he is willing to concede this fact he seems unwilling to concede the fact that his administration has failed at their job creation mandate; which is needed to keep most of the young men who are currently engaged in criminal acts, gainfully employed and above the state of ‘desperation’ that the Prime Minister eludes to.

The very fact that Prime Minister Perry Christie is unable to elaborate on how his administration plans to ‘fix’ this problem, as it pertains to unemployment, proves that he and his administration have no plan moving forward; and the fact that we have reached this state has shown that he and his administration had no plan to remedy the problem when they took office in 2012, as both unemployment and criminality have both increased under their watch.

As I sit here clearing my browser history, the Attorney General and others now seek leave to educate the people about the proposed “Interception of Communications Bill – 2017” claiming that persons have been misled as to the contents of the bill but I take this opportunity to advise her that no one has mislead anyone about the bill as the contents of the bill are quite clear.  The real concern is the integrity of those presenting the bill, as we have already seen that they would have the propensity to interpret or misinterpret the bill in their best interest. 

There is nothing better than past behavior to predict future behavior.

“Spy Bill’ delayed” – The Nassau Guardian

Excerpt from this article; “Amid widespread criticism and ‘partisan’ uproar over the recently tabled Interception of Communication Bill, Attorney General Allyson Maynard-Gibson yesterday said there will be a period of public consultation to better inform Bahamians about the contents of the tabled bill before moving forward with the legislation.

In a statement released said, ‘Unfortunately, in this political season, most of the public discussion about the legislation has become completely partisan.

“Overheated and irresponsible accusations or alternative facts do nothing to further public education or engagement.”

Indeed, Madame Attorney General, “Overheated and irresponsible accusation or alternative facts do nothing to further public education or engagement”, other than to prevent the government from forcing something forward that the people do not fully understand and do not trust or do not even feel is in their best interest but now prompts this government go out and seek to inform the public as to what is really being proposed and get their feedback; as to getting their feedback, it would seem that it is just an exercise in futility, to appease the masses as the language used would suggest as much, “…there will be a period of public consultation to better inform Bahamians about the contents of the tabled bill before moving forward with the legislation”.  Will person’s recommendations even be taken into consideration or will this be like the Gaming Referendum, even with the people saying no when consulted about it, it will be imposed upon them anyway?

I must also point out that the Attorney Generals comments beg the question of how can there be alternative facts in the complete absences of facts, thus the need for a period of education and consultation,  as the bill leaves so much up to interpretation especially to the Attorney General who has shown that she is totally unable of being impartial but yet would  speak to the partisan discussion of the public; which I once thought was indeed free speech but only now shows just how out of touch the Attorney General is when it comes to the realities that face the nation.

Section 4 of the this bill is where I will begin to address my concerns;

4. Application for inception warrant and unauthorized disclosure of application
5. An authorized officer who wishes to obtain an inception warrant under the provisions of this Act shall request the Attorney-General to make an application ex parte to a judge in chambers on his behalf.

Does this mean that each inception warrant desired by the police or ‘authorized officer’ has to cross the desk or pass through the office of the Attorney General?

There is lies a major problem because how can a person that has already shown a blind allegiance to her party over country, be expected to be impartial in making such decisions on whether to violate “in the best interest of the national security”, the privacy of one of the citizens of the Bahamas?

The best interest of national security being defined as “….included, but not limited to, the protection of The Bahamas from threats of sabotage, espionage, terrorists acts, terrorism or subversion.

Wasn’t the environmental group Save The Bays group seeking to destabilize this government; an act of subversion, how was this determined and how will it be determined going forward and by whom, because it appears that anyone that questions this present Progressive Liberal Party government is seen as a suspect.

There are proponents of the bill that now say that what is being proposed is already in place, as the Commissioner of Police already has leave to do what is proposed in the bill,  would it now be required of him to consult with the Attorney General’s office first and if so, is the vetting by the Attorney General’s office the added measure that is supposed to bring a measure of protection to the average citizen because I have not seen too many instances of the police making private emails public to make a case that persons are trying to destabilize the government, exactly how is that determined anway?

This then brings us back to the integrity or lack thereof of the Attorney General and her office.

And then another question is protection from whom, as the people have already stated a great distrust of the present government; is the bill proposed by the government to protect the people from the government?

Excerpt from this article; “Fort Charlotte MP Dr. Andre Rollins’ pronouncement that he is prepared to swim in his ‘own vomit’ in order to make things right with the FNM to ensure a general election win over the governing PLP, verifies that he is nothing more than a ‘political prostitute,’ according to Marathon MP Jerome Fitzgerald.

In a strong critique of his former PLP colleague yesterday on the sidelines of the grand opening of the new Sandilands Primary library and technical lab, Fitzgerald said Dr. Rollins would do whatever it takes to salvage his short political career.”

The minister of education aid Dr. Rollins has done a great job distinguishing himself as a ‘political prostitute’ extraordinaire,’ one that is sure to go down in the annals of history as ‘someone who jumped from pillar to post to no avail.”

The Hon. Jerome Fitzgerald has had a lot to say as of late and my first question now is “Who authorized pump 10?”

What strong language from the Member of Parliament for Marathon as he condemns Dr. Andre Rollins for this latest actions which he [Dr. Rollins] claims are the great efforts that he is willing to go through to rid the country of the present Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) government, which we all can agree on have been nothing but an abysmal failure since taking office on May 7^th 2012.

Yes, Dr. Rollins has been around the block, politically, but what is really behind this fervent stance that he has taken against the PLP, wherein he is willing to seek to join forces with a man that he once declared to have no confidence in, to rid the country of the Progressive Liberal Party, a political organization that he was once a part of and considered him a ‘rising star’ and part of its ‘bridge to the future’.

We must remember that Dr. Rollins has indeed been in the ‘belly of the beast’ and had come to know ‘the ways’ of the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) and it takes a lot to now want to ‘swim through your own vomit’ to get back just in order to rid the country of the party that you once were a part of; just ask Prime Minister, Perry Christie, who at one point stated that he would ‘swim through his own vomit’ to get back to the PLP, a party from which he was once expelled, having no other motive to rejoin this party other than to advance his political career.

While Minister Fitzgerald now seeks to diminish the character of Dr. Andre Rollins, I must remind him that he was the one that choose his political career over the lives of his constituents to stay in good standing with the governing Progressive Liberal Party [to keep his job]; he should be the last person to speak of political prostitution.

 Minister Fitzgerald should also be very mindful of the fact that not only does the act of jumping from pillar to post makes one a ‘political prostitute’, but also the act of going against the best interest of the people that have elected you to serve the best interest of the party that you are a member of, all in order to save your political career, can and has also made you, Minister Jerome Fitzgerald, a ‘political prostitute extraordinaire’; therefore you should be the last one to talk.

Someone needs to shut of pump 10, it may be leaking.

A mere months away from the next general elections, now since that the boundaries report has been tabled under suspicious circumstances, the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) releases a new crime plan in an attempt to make good on a promised that they have failed to fulfill and my only thought is, AGAIN?!

“RBDF to join crime fight” – The Nassau Guardian

Excerpt from this article; “The Royal Bahamas Defense Force (RBDF) is being called on to work with police to fight crime in response to a recent round of violence on New Providence that has left many people calling for authorities to take stronger action.

Minister of National Security Dr. Bernard Nottage outlined a set of crime-fighting measures in the House of Assembly yesterday, two days after Prime Minister Perry Christie likened the situation in New Providence to ‘the Wild West’.

Between Friday night and Monday morning, seven men were shot dead on the island.

Nottage said that in all cases in which people have been charged with possession of an illegal firearm and/or ammunition, the prosecution will object to bail.

There are also plans for the increase in foot patrols in crime hot spots; the aggressive stop and search of suspicious people and vehicles; and the activation and placement of specially designed mobile police vans to serve as manned police stations in communities where violent crimes take place.

Nottage said the police force has two such specially designed vans.

This was the first time the national security minister has publicly addressed the recent crime spree.”

The first thing I would advise of the police officers, get your money sorted out before you work any extra hours, because the Minister of State for National Security, the Hon. Keith Bell, already has an appeal in the courts at this very moment to not pay you for the overtime that you have already worked when the government tried these ‘new’ crime measures before, because let us be truthful, the Minister of National Security, as he finally breaks his silence on the recent crime spree, seems to be repeating most the same crime initiatives that he has tried before and that failed but then went on to blame the Commissioner of Police and those under his command for the initiatives failing.

Now the Minister of National Security hints at the implementation of some sort of curfew and ‘aggressive police stops’ of ‘suspicious’ vehicles or persons, I think this idea was kicked down the road a few times but it has yet to be worked out just how you would implement the lock down of the entire country or crime ‘hot spots’ and how would this reduce crime; because this does not change criminal behavior, as it only eliminates the opportunity for crime.  Then, of course there is the problem of young men feeling targeted and beginning to think it is now ‘us against them’, as the Minister of National Security has never mentioned, to my recollection, the fostering of a friendly relationship between the community and the police which is a very important tool in the reduction of crime and criminal activity.  What has not worked is this concept of community policing; wherein the police show up on foot patrol only when a ‘new crime plan’ is released, there is no consistency to it and therefore no true fostering of a genuine and trusting relationship between the people of any community and the police especially in the inner cities or areas marked as ‘crime hot spots’.

So, in my opinion the Minister of National Security, Dr. Bernard Nottage, has ‘missed the boat’ on this again, along with his entire administration and as they now stand on the verge of all out civil unrest they now have gone back to a crime plan that has failed them in the past to give the appearance that they are actually doing something, when they are actually not and at the point of making things a lot worst.

“Roberts: We all must be a part of the crime solution” – The Nassau Guardian 24^th January 2017

Excerpt from this article; “Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) Chairman Bradley Roberts yesterday said that crime is a challenge to all administrations and suggested a national approach to the problem.

‘We all must be a part of the solution on crime’, said Roberts in a statement released after the Free National Movement (FNM) held a press conference highlighting what it views as the Christie administration’s failure to adequately address crime in the Bahamas.”

It is amazing that shortly after making this statement the leader of the Progressive Liberal Party, Perry Christie, and the Commissioner of Police, Ellison Greenslade seem to be at odds over the country’s crime situation.

Excerpt from this article; “Despite the country recording 10 homicides in 13 days, Commissioner of Police Ellison Greenslade said the Bahamas is not in a state of ‘crisis’ and the average Bahamian can continue to ‘go about their day as normal’ day without the fear of being attacked.”

Excerpt from this article; “Prime Minister Perry Christie yesterday likened the Bahamas’ crime situation to the ‘Wild West’, as he said the recent murders in the capital must solicit a ‘major’ and ‘continuous’ effort by his administration to ‘flood the streets’ with officers b a bid to do ‘all that is necessary to bring the madness to a halt.”

I actually believe that for once that the Prime Minister has gotten something right, yes; Commissioner Greenslade we are in crisis and it is not about the ramblings of Bradley Roberts who has seems to have forgotten the infamous ‘murder boards’ of the 2012 election campaign but it is really about the failure of the Progressive Liberal Party as a government to put in place the proper policies and effective crime fighting initiatives as promised, working along with the police force.

Now we have these two men, the Prime Minister and the Commissioner of Police (CoP), pointing fingers at one another without any action from the Minister of National Security along with the Minister of State for National Security, who both have been extremely silent on the matter.  The last time that Keith Bell, Minister of State for National Security, weighed in was some about April of 2016 when he made the wild claim that the governments crimes plan had not failed put suggested that they were not properly implemented by the CoP and his staff; all of this while people continued to die in the streets, literally.

The people trusted the Progressive Liberal Party when they said that they had a plan to make the country safer and under their watch the situation has become dire.  The people would like to know, where are the crime plans that they promised and when the Chairman of the PLP talks about us ‘all being a part of [the] crime solution’, isn’t this one of the main objectives of the Urban Renewal program?  Is he now conceding that the initiative failed the people that he once promised it should have ‘saved’?  Is the deafening silence from the Minister and Minister of State for National Security also a sign of them conceding to failure in this matter?

The Progressive Liberal Party promised a lot on this issues, along with many others, but have delivered very little and now they claim to be the best choice going into the 2017 election, asking for another years to fixed the problems that they promised to have once had the answers to but have only made so most worst.

Finally it would seem that the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) government is making an attempt to put some framework in place to justify the existence of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), which has operated for the past four plus years without any legislation.  There also seems to be an attempt to now cover up some blatant wrongdoings carried out by this government during this administration.

Excerpt from this article; “THE government has tabled a bill in the House of Assembly that aims to create a ‘single legal framework’ that would allow the Commissioner of Police to obtain a warrant from a judge to intercept and examine a person’s communications from telecommunications operators, internet providers and postal services for a period of three months.

According to the Interception of Communication Bill, 2017, which was tabled on Wednesday night, this would be done in the ‘interest of national security,’ which is defined as protecting the country from ‘threats of sabotage, espionage, terrorist acts, terrorism or subversion.”

First, I would like to note it is being suggested by the government itself that they have already had an entity up and functioning and now seeks to “create a ‘single legal framework’ for it, which would mean that the government is now conceding that this entity has been operating illegally.

The definition of “in the interest of national security” is almost laughable as it is extremely broad and far reaching and invites the Commissioner of Police with the permission of the Attorney General’s office, to at times, violate the Constitution of The Bahamas; allow me to explain because I can already sense persons getting angry or just simply confused.

Question; how does one determine what is in the best interest of national security and what is an act of subversion?

Subversion: the undermining of the power and authority of an established system or institution.

This takes me back to the Save The Bays case and the ‘leaked emails’ that were tabled in the House of Assembly by Education Minister Jerome Fitzgerald with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fred Mitchell in tow.  In this case these ministers attempted to make an argument that Save the Bays was not really an environmental group but rather a ‘terrorist’ organization with the aim to destabilize the Progressive Liberal Party government, an accusation that he has yet to prove.

So now, let us take that case and place in at a place in time where this bill, which has just been tabled, is actual law, now ask yourself; could the government make a clear case that this organization was actually attempting to destabilize the government and thereby obtain the necessary permission  from the Attorney General to then be able to access their emails?, because even the ‘Hon’ Jerome Fitzgerald admitted to needing the emails, which he obtained by questionable means,  to make his case.

Who would decide what is in the best interest of the country and exactly what would be required of them to make a case to a judge to obtain a warrant in the first place?  These questions need to be answered as the bill seems to be a bit too open-ended and open to interpretation for my concern. 

“To receive such a warrant, it must be proven that the information to be inspected cannot be acquired by any other means, the bill notes”, I guess now this in the end to the ‘political garbage can’ and receiving others persons personal information in ‘sealed envelopes’, which just magically appear from ‘somewhere’.

“The Attorney General would also have to be satisfied that the warrant is needed in the ‘public interest or interest of justice”; so according to this law if I were to receive information that ‘someone’ had communicated the desire to have several persons killed; it then would be fully investigated, or will I then be vilified and made the person of interest according to who the accusation is made against?

This we will have to wait and see; I am not saying that this law is not needed or necessary but I am saying that in light of recent events; I do not feel that as written, it will or can fairly be applied especially by this present government and I also feel that it would be necessary for the position of Attorney General to be independent of any political organization and therefore be a position where one is elected and not appointed
