Reading the newspapers this morning, I had fully intended to weigh in on the present discussion of the call for the decriminalization of marijuana, then I came across a story that made me want cuss dirty cuss and figured I would speak to it to alleviate my frustration.
“Forbes calls for explanation on baseball stadium deals” – The Nassau Guardian
Excerpt from this article; “Opposition spokesman on sports and culture Picewell Forbes yesterday called on the government to provide a “full and frank” explanation for delays at the Andre Rodgers National Baseball Stadium complex and its plans for the further development of the project.
“It has been more than seven months since the FNM came in office and to date the multimillion-dollar Andre Rodgers National Baseball Stadium project remains stalled, and in a state of perpetual deterioration at additional and unnecessary costs to the taxpayers,” Forbes said in a statement.
“The leased heavy equipment such as the crane remains on site, adding to this unnecessary financial burden to the taxpayer.
“This dereliction of duty and wanton waste of public funds typifies the FNM government’s approach to governance and sends a clear message to all and sundry about their attitudes toward our national heroes, our aspiring athletes, and youth and sports development generally.”
At the start of construction, more than 17 months ago, the project was projected to cost about $21 million and was scheduled to be completed by the end of 2017.
In the first quarter of 2017, Woslee Construction Bahamas ceased work, citing non-payment for months.”

Now Picewell Forbes needs to just stop and reflect on what he wants to say here and answer the people why this project was stopped under the previous Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) government and answer as to why the general contractor, Woslee Construction Bahamas was not being paid.
It simply amazing that he would seek to highlight the present Free National Movement’s “dereliction of duty” in completing the stadium while totally ignoring the reason as to why work on the project came to a standstill in the first place and will ne or anyone else in his party ask for “a full and frank explanation” for the reason why the general contractor was not being paid?
Some would ask, why would I allow this article to bother me to this extent; and it is because of the simple fact that Picewell Forbes is suggesting that Bahamians are a bunch of ‘asses’; this could be the only reason why he would even ask the question as to why this project has stalled or has not be restarted by the present government while refusing to acknowledge why the project has stopped and was nit completed under the previous government, of which minister Forbes was a part.
This intimation is asinine at best and terribly insulting at worst.
So while minister Forbes seeks to cast aspersions, I must ask is he really this ignorant as to what is going around him for him not to have realized that the public noticed that this project stalled under the previous government and they knew the reason why and find it very offensive that he would seek to insult their intelligence by seeking to blame the current government for it not being completed with all of the other issues that it has faced in the first six-seven months of its administration because while not admitting to their ineptitude and incompetence in bringing the project to this point, they are quite willing to ask why hasn’t their mess been cleaned up yet.
I am reminded of the now National Stadium being a pile of rusting re-bar under the first Christie administration until the Ingraham administration came to power and actually got the project, up and running and completed.
