My Morning Paper – November 16, 2018 – Insult & Injury

In what can only be described as an all out assault on the intelligence of the Bahamian public, Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) has taken out a full page ad in one of today’s dailies in what seems to be an attempt to dispel the ‘rumors’ that they have increased electricity rates.

In an ad under caption “BPL HAS NOT INCREASED ELECTRICITY RATES – CURRENT RATE STRUCTURE IN PLACE SINCE 2010”, it would appear that the power company is attempting to blame the increase in rates on the ‘market price’ of fuel used to generate electricity.

So they wish to distract with a technicality.

Allow me to get technical; exactly why is the power company using more expensive fuel at this time?

As they attempt to convince the people that is because of the ‘market price’ of fuel, which is technically true, they are not expanding on the fact they are doing so because damage done to their generators which burn a less expensive fuel due to fires; fires whose cause have yet to be explained to day.  So the question is why should the public made to accept these added costs?

They then add insult to injury, as they go on to express their understanding of the public’s frustration at having to pay higher electrical costs and the ramification associated with these costs.

Simply, they cannot be serious and what they are doing is tantamount to a criminal act and should be treated as such.
