My Morning Paper – October 08, 2018 – Causing More Harm Than Good

“Davis concerned about WSC disconnection program” – The Nassau Guardian

Excerpt from this article; “Opposition Leader Philip Brave Davis yesterday expressed concern with Water and Sewage Corporation’s (WSC) mass disconnection exercise, which started in New Providence and many of the family Islands, saying while people who owe should pay their bills, the corporation must not cause more ‘harm than good’ by disconnecting an essential commodity like water.

However, WSC Executive Chairman, Adrian Gibson said the corporation has and will continue to give customers every opportunity to maintain their supply.”

I am still trying to figure out exactly what the leader of the opposition is trying to do here, beside get himself in the papers because he is really not doing what is in the best interest of the person of those whom he attempts to defend here.  You cannot serve a person’s best interest by encouraging them to be delinquent in such matters and have them believe that the government can take care of them forever, this is not feasible and offers persons a sense of false hope while bringing damage to the many but Mr. Davis would have the people believe that the present government has come in the middle of the night to cut off their water supplies when this is simply not the case.

“In a statement, Davis said, the corporation should make every attempt to work with customers, particularly families with children, to ensure that the water supply stays on.” But this is being done and if the leader of the opposition were more attentive he would have realized this but being deep-rooted in this mission to become prime minister despite the odds against him, he turns a blind eye to the efforts being made to ensure that this is done.

While Davis cries out that the disconnection exercise “..simply comes off as cruel  and inhumane”, he ignores the fact that many seem to have been inspired by the actual threat of disconnection to find their funds to bring their accounts up to date or make payments on them and as I speak to making to payments; Mr. Davis must have realized that customers are actually being incentivized to be more cognizant of paying their water bills.

“As he encouraged customers to visit the corporation and come to a payment arrangement, Gibson reminded customers that if they paid half of the bill or the full bill they can receive sizable discounts or rebates.

As an example, the chairman said, if the bill is $1,000 and a customer wants to pay $200, WSC would not turn that customer away.”

This situation is a replay of the homes being repossessed by the government from person that had not paid their mortgages in over five years; no government can expect to want the best for its people or deliver the best to its people while encouraging this type of behavior from these very same people because you are sending mixed messages and the people will take the easy way out, so do not say “….while people who owe should pay their bills ..” and not mean it because it statements such as these that cause “more harm than good.”, because the manner in which the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) governs, no one would pay their bills and Peter Nygard would still be in his house.

So, indeed, the leader of the opposition is again making a mountain out a mole hill AGAIN as he attempts to retain leadership of the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP).
