My Morning Paper – October 31, 2017 – The Official Opposition

In what can be seen as a bid to become the official opposition the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) failed in another bid to even retain a seat in the last general election but as luck would have it their chances have been improved drastically now that Senator Fred Mitchell has been made Chairman of the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP).

Indeed, the recent input by the party’s new chairman has, as it did when he was a member of parliament and then made a senator, only served to further disenfranchise the party from the people of the country; further bringing people to the realization that the PLP has lost its way, lost it focus and become a party not of the people but of a few men consumed with envy, consumed with jealousy and stung with greed; the new chairman seems to be one of these persons.

“From the Office of the Chairman of the PLP

Statement From the Progressive Liberal Party

On the Prime Minister Dancing The Might Away While People Suffer

30 October 2017

Immediate Release”

Excerpt from this article; “Nothing appears to us to show how clueless Prime Minister Hubert Minnis is about the suffering the FNM has inflicted on the country in the six months they have been in office than the Prime Minister on the front page this morning dancing and celebrating while thousands who voted for him are suffering from unemployment, hunger and deprivation.

It is clear that Mr. Minnis and his colleagues are tone deaf and blind as bats to the human suffering that they have inflicted on the economy by firing people from their jobs, by failing to respond to the cries for help and assistance, and by fostering an atmosphere of cutbacks and layoffs throughout the country.  Instead of getting to work, the Prime Minister dances and celebrates in the face of human suffering, touring the country in a victory lap, flying up and down behind police motor cycles with sirens blaring, having a good time.”

[rrry daning

Of course Chairman Mitchell is not only being very disingenuous when he suggests that Prime Minister Minnis and the FNM government has inflicted suffering on the country in the past six months; this would be to suggest that the pain and suffering experienced by the people of the country has just come about within the last six months and that the last administration left the country in great economic shape – he does not even believe this and if he does then it again shows just how disconnected from reality he and his party are from the realties that face this country.

Indeed, the present condition of the country is only the after-effect of a Progressive Liberal Party government that was so caught up in filling their own pockets led by the Hon. Perry Christie, so does Senator Mitchell really want to get caught up in talks of a prime minister dancing and celebrating while thousands of those who voted for him were suffering from unemployment, hunger and depravation?

I ask the chairman to be mindful of the fact that under the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP), Value-Added Tax (VAT) was introduced to country, this was done without bringing about the necessary reform in the already existing tax systems which were already falling due to the misappropriation of funds.  VAT was said to be exceeding all expectations and doing extremely well, in fact it did so well that the country collected over a billion dollars in revenue but there seemed to be a question of exactly where was this money was going as the country experienced four economic downgrades in five years under the last PLP government.

The chairman may also want to tell the people of the country that as they were voted out of office, the country was on the brink of another possible downgrade with the possibility of the Bahamian dollar also being devalued, and all of this was going on as the former prime minister danced as if there was nothing wrong and Mr. Mitchell was off flying somewhere on trips whose benefits to the country are still under question.

This is nothing short of shameless, especially since now he seeks to accuse the current government not doing in six months that what they were unwilling and/or incapable of doing in five years.

Due to the failures of the past administration to bring about fiscal reform, some very painful adjustments have been made, these adjustment are the ones that the chairman now criticizes the current administration for it is clear that without them the country would have been in worst economic shape than the PLP left it.

The Progressive Liberal Party fails for one reason; it is their nature, so DNA the time is now.
