“Wilson wants details for Dominican students” – The Nassau Guardian

Excerpt from this article; “Bahamas Unions of Teachers (BUT) President Belinda Wilson said yesterday she is concerned about the government’s plan to accept students from Dominica into The Bahamas school system.

While Wilson said she is not opposed to the initiative, she said the government must articulate the details of how it plans to accommodate the students.

“I believe that it is our Christian duty to help our brothers and sister in The Caribbean, but we must also be practical and we must also have a plan.’ she said.”

A lot of people have voiced concerns over the plan to render assistance to the students from Dominica, a lot through sheer ignorance due to the fact that they simply do not know the difference between Dominica and The Dominican Republic; this then brings up the question what if it were The Dominican Republic to whom we were seeking to render aid, why would there be any objection to this?

Then others have voiced the very same concerns being voiced by the BUT President; a concern over the details to the plan, wanting to know how the country is going to assist the students.

There is an idiom that goes “The devil is in the details” which mean something might seem simple at the first look.  I have no doubt that the details have been work out to a great degree in this case but this government but also understand that there “The devil” can also lie in the lack of details”, this is the breeding ground for speculation and supposition on the part of some that may seek to create discord; probably the very some persons that seek to shamelessly degrade The Dominican Republic.

If this developing issue with this humanitarian effort to help our brothers and sisters of Dominica has taught us anything beside the fact that a lot of Bahamians need a refresher course in geography and are very open and prone to propaganda, it that if the Minnis administration is to set itself aside and above the Christie administration before it, it will have  to more forthcoming with the people that elected them, even if your intentions are the best, tell them exactly what your plans are especially if it concerns the finances of the country in anyway.

This would mean that when questions are asked as to how the country plans to fund and carry out certain efforts, they [the government] must have an answer for the people because without this the people will either lose all faith/confidence in you or just begin to become suspicious of you or both – as they did with the administration that preceded you.
